Nextdoor: Sharekit
What we did:
Our team built Nextdoor's first Sharekit API, which allowed for Nextdoor content to exist on other apps and services and vice versa.
Problem:
Before the Sharekit API users had to copy-paste, or screenshot information between apps. This resulted in inconsistency in how information was presented, broken flows, and a difficult user experience.
Solution
Sharekit API allowed people to easily share information across apps expanding their reach, improving the content on Nextdoor and showcasing Nextdoor's usefulness on partners' products.
Design process
Discuss needs with partners

Finalize designs

Sharekit API
Our first step was to build an API that user's on a partner's service could use to cross-post on the app they were on and Nextdoor. My goal was to create a familiar and simple way for people to cross-post.
We kept things simple so that it could be integrated with different apps
Incorporated legal language for US and International markets
Found opportunities for easy sign-in and registration depending on the user

Partners
We individually worked with each partner to figure out their needs and their audience so that we could curate a design experience that worked best for them. We wanted Nextdoor content to fit naturally into their product. We also wanted our users to find utility in the partner's content rather than seeing the content as an ad.

Results
We saw a huge lift (20% increase in registration) on Android due to the redesign on Android with the Samsung partnership. Historically Android was neglected due to low consumer rate in US, which allowed us to make such an impactful change. This resulted in a 4.0 -> 4.5 app rating increase in the play store.
~1000+ new posts per partner on Nextdoor, with ~25% of posters becoming new Nextdoor VNs
Successfully partnered with: Samsung, Meetup, Gofundme, Patch, weather.com and Neighbors by Ring
Learnings
Sharekit is a fun and completely open-ended project. Each of our partners has different needs and I was given a lot of creativity in thinking about how their content can surface on different product areas on Nextdoor and how Nextdoor content can live on their site/app.
Due to the different surface areas partners' content touched on Nextdoor - feed, discover, events, marketplace, I collaborated with many teams at Nextdoor to see the impact and trade-offs partnerships may have. This project also encouraged me to think about future features on Nextdoor and how partners can benefit from those.
